The Master Course is a component of a five years programme designed by IUSS Pavia in cooperation with several Italian and Foreign Universities, under the aegis of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), to underline the educational dimension of Universal and International Expos.
The theme of sustainability at local, coastal-marine and global level is a “red tape” linking the Expos of Shanghai (2010), Yeosu (2012) and Milano (2015).
The first Master course on “Environmental Assessment and Integrated Management in Urban Areas”, started in September 2010 and will end in June 2012; the course has been attended by students from Italy, China, Turkey and Ethiopia.
The second Master Course presented here will start in September 2012 and end in February 2014 (three semesters). Classes will be held in Italy, China and Korea: each Country will host one semester.
Aim of the Master Course
The degree’s professional profile is targeted to train experts in coastal zone management, able to operate both in the public and private sectors.
The master course aims at offering participants full capability to acquire high professional skills in coastal zone management, as coordinators of teams involved in assessing coastal – zone status and/or restoration projects, and as researchers on coastal issues.
The International Master is a unique programme resulting from the scientific cooperation of six Italian Universities, with the Chonnam National University of Korea and the Tongij University of China and it is sponsored by the Bureau International des Expositions.
Structure and Contents
The Master’s programme will be spread over 3 semesters beginning in September 2012 in Italy and ending in February 2014. The course will be officially presented in Yeosu, in summer 2012, as an official event of EXPO 2012. The first semester will take place in Italy, the second in China and the third in Korea. The Master will mainly focus on coastal morphology and dynamics, coastal engineering, coastal ecology, and tourism development and sustainability.
Official Language
English is the official language of the Master course, to encourage interaction between international students, as well as with the international faculty.
A limited opportunity
The Master’s programme is a limited entry course, open to European, Korean and Chinese students.
Students will be selected following Italian, Korean and Chinese admission procedures and will be activated if a minimum of 15 successful candidates will be selected.
A strong link with the job market
The links with the market and institutions created by the Master course will facilitate contacts with prospective industry employers and guide individuals through the choice of their career path and job application process. During the course each student is offered an internship period which can lead to a subsequent placement. For the internship/placement assignment, participants are facilitated by privileged channels with national and international firms and institutions, in Italy and abroad.
