The Italian Journal of Geosciences (born from the merge of former Bollettino della Società Geologica Italiana and Bollettino del Servizio Geologico d’Italia) provides an international forum for the publication of high-quality original research in the broad field of geosciences. It publishes research papers, special short papers, review papers and discussion-and-reply papers for their rapid distribution to the international community of geosciences.
The journal is firstly intended to call attention to the Italian territory and its surroundings for the exceptional role they have played in the understanding of geological processes, development of modern geology and of Earth sciences in general.
The main focus of the journal is therefore on the geology of Italy and surrounding sedimentary basins and landmasses, and their relationships with the Mediterranean geology and geodynamics. Process-oriented and regional studies concerning other areas of the World will be also considered for publication.
Papers on geology, structural geology, stratigraphy, sedimentology, basin analysis, paleontology, ecosystems, paleoceanography, paleoclimatology, geomorphology, volcanology, mineralogy, geochemistry, petrology, geophysics, geodynamics, hydrogeology, geohazards, marine and engineering geology, modelling of geological process, and all related applied sciences are welcome. The submission of manuscripts regarding the history of geology and the conservation of the geological heritage is also welcome.
