Lecturer: Stefano Tavani (Structural geologist)

The 12th Short Course will be held at the Dipartimento di Scienze della Terra, dell'Ambiente e delle Risorse (DiSTAR), Università di Napoli Federico II, Sede di Monte Sant'Angelo, Via Cintia 26, Napoli.

The lectures will be given in Room GEO 09 with the following timetable:

1) 11 June h 10-13 and 14-17

2) 12 June h 10-13 and 14-17

There are 15 places available and registration is required by sending an email to: stefano.tavani@unina.it

A certificate of attendance will be provided to all participants at the end of the course. The aim of this practical course is to enable participants to improve their skills in geologic mapping by remote sensing and geological model building, with application to a region of the Zagros fold and thrust belt.

After a short introduction on thrust tectonics, the lithostratigraphy of the area will be introduced and field check points will be provided. Participants are expected to produce a geological map of the area in Google Earth using these data. Iterative validation of the map will be done using the 3DMove software. The final output will be an about 50 km long cross sections.

This training is aimed at appealing to doctoral students and early career researchers.
