I share every word of Marco Ligi's obituary by Enrico Bonatti in the SGI news Friday 14, 2026. What I would add goes back to Marco's early education.
I still remember Marco's extremely kind and quiet presence in the back of the Geology class-room of the Bologna University in the early 1980, when a good friend, Alberto Bally, began with Bologna his visiting professorship in some Italian Universities, leaving his home place in Houston. At the time, Marco was already a member of the technical staff at the Bologna Marine Geology institution of the CNR. A uncommon super clever technician, a special student, at such a level that not surprisingly allowed him to reach the peak academic degree, the Lincei Academy. An example of skillfulness and engagement, reflected in his remarkable scientific publications. All his friends are saddened now. I firmly hope we'll see again Marco. Ciao, as a few times ago.
