ZEISS-GSL scholarship for PhD

-

Società Geologica Italiana

Dear all,
I am happy to announce that once again we will be funding a geoscience microscopy scholarship for PhD students in 2021 with GeolSoc London. The scholarship provides £8000 over 6 months for travel, instrument operating costs, conference attendance etc, as well as free analysis time at ZEISS scientific/microscopy facilities with access to a full range of state of the art kit. This scholarship has been a great opportunity for students to write and budget a small research proposal. The intention is that applicants are 2nd-3rd year PhD students who have identified an area of research that would benefit their PhD, but may not be possible with their current funding. However, we had several excellent 1st year PhD and MSc student applications last year.

The ZEISS-GSL scholarship is available to applicants around the world excluding the N. America region (Covered by the ZEISS-GSA Research Grant).

The deadline is slightly earlier this year, Midday 15th February, so there's just over a month left to get all those student's brains whirring!

The intention this year is to run the project from July-Dec 2021. The 2020 project was pushed back to Jan-June 2021 for obvious reasons.

Successful applications focus on a novel application of microscopy techniques to a good research problem, and typically involve a correlative (multi-modal, multi-scale) approach.
