Hello, listeners,

I just posted an episode with Jiří Žák, Professor at Charles University in Prague, on the orogenies that shaped central Europe.  There are two orogenies in the story: the Cadomian and the Variscan.  The former all took place in the late Neoproterozoic and early Cambrian on the northern margin of Gondwana, well before parts of that margin moved north to become part of Europe.  The latter accompanied the final stages of the assembly of Pangea in the late Paleozoic.

It's quite a complicated picture. There seems to be a fair degree of consensus about what happened during the Cadomian and Variscan orgenies but a lot of ongoing debate about what happened in between.

I hope you enjoy it!

Oliver
